Obesity Eats Up a Third of A Trillion U.S. Dollars……….Every Year
11.28.09
Experts say rising obesity will cost U.S. health care $344 billion a year. That is more than a third of a trillion dollars spent on problems caused by large guts, huge thighs and fat-coated arteries. $344 billion accounts fore more than 21 percent of all health care spending in the United Sates. The sad thing is most of that money could have been spent elsewhere, because obesity is one of the most preventable causes of adverse health.
According to Kenneth Thorpe, chairman of the department of health policy and management at Emory University in Atlanta, an overweight person spends an average $2,460 per year more on health care than a person who is not overweight. Being large has never been more expensive. Increasing health and reducing National waistlines should be among the most pressing to-do items on the list. If there has ever been a way to cut spending this is it. Aside from the National benefits of reducing obesity, families stand to gain the most from increased health. Medical problems associated with obesity are among the most common causes of household bankruptcy.
There have never been more tools available to help individuals lose weight, but motivation and self control are still the factors that will save our national and household debt. For more information on how to control your weight please visit: The Diet Watchers.
